Martin Kodric is a step closer to achieving his ambition of becoming a professional racing driver after being selected for the prestigious Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s 2016 Young Drivers Program.

The 18-year-old Croatian driver is currently enjoying a successful debut season in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe with Team Bonaldi Motorsport – taking two podiums last time out at Silverstone.

But the ADD Motorsports-supported racer’s season got even better after the news that could act as the catalyst for his future plans.

He is one of 13 youngsters chosen for the program from the three continental series of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe, Asia and North America.

And he is delighted that his ability and progress this season have been recognized.

He said: “It’s brilliant news. To be given this chance by such a well-known brand as Lamborghini is a real honour.
“Not only will it help my progress on the track, but help me off it as well.
“It’s another step closer to becoming a professional driver.”

The Young Drivers Program is in its third year - with participants getting test sessions on track, driver coaching with Lamborghini factory drivers and telemetry analysis with engineers, as well as physical training sessions, complete medical checks and sports nutrition help.

Other areas include communication and product training sessions to help them prepare on and off the track in the best possible way.

Martin is one of 13 drivers all under the age of 27 to be selected from countries including Japan, China, Israel, Australia and India.

Drivers who excel can move onto the GT3 Junior Program, with  20 GT3 Junior Drivers currently behind the wheels of Huracán GT3s, competing in the most important GT championships around the world.

Giorgio Sanna, head of Lamborghini Motorsport, said

“After three years of the Young Drivers Program and thanks to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, in 2016 we are proud to see twenty drivers competing in the most important GT championships supported by Lamborghini Squadra Corse. In the wake of this success we have selected, and in some cases confirmed, the young motorsport talents of the 2016 season. They come from different countries and continents because we’re looking for drivers who can represent us, in the future, also in new emerging markets.
“We have further improved the driver training program and we are confident we will help identify the future protagonists of GT championships.”

Fraser Sheader, director of performance and management team ADD Motorsports, added:

“We’re really happy for Martin. They’ve seen how well he is doing and he now has the chance to shine with one of the top brands in the world. It’s a great program and will set him up nicely for a career in motorsport"
“Now he needs to keep proving himself and working hard and they will help us navigate the path he will take to get to where he wants to be.”
